Can your natal chart show if you are an extrovert or an introvert?

The simple answer would be yes and, in this post, I will show you some quick hacks into reading natal charts from this perspective.  The reason this can matter is that we want to know what gives you energy and keeps you balanced as a person. We need to know what needs to be balanced before looking deeper into the natal chart to see the how to actually improve your life. First, let us define what extroversion and introversion even is. Simply speaking, it has to do with orientation towards the world. Are you looking inward and then outward or are you looking outward and there inward?

Extroversion in a person would be defined as being energized by interaction with people and the external objective world. In contrast, introversion would be defined as being energized by time alone and interaction with an internal subjective world. Very few people fall neatly into one of these categories because there is a spectrum of being an introvert or an extrovert. It is also important to note that this has nothing to do with how shy or sensitive you are. If you are an outgoing person, you can still be an introvert if your prime focus is your internal system of feelings, values and dreams. As far as sensitivity goes, we can also note that some people are sensitive to sensual stimuli like sounds or scents and others are sensitive to someone acting against a value they hold dear. These are both sensitivities but they are oriented towards different things. So, how can you see if someone is primarily an introvert or an extrovert in their natal chart?  I tend to follow a simple three step analysis. I always start with the ascendant -descendant axis to see how people feel and interact with the world. The Ascendant would indicate YOU and the descendant would indicate WORLD. Psychologically, they are both actually part of your psyche and tend to play a game of push and pull or shadow and light. In a natal chart reading this would be the prime consideration but, in a personality reading it would matter far less. Let me give you an example that might surprise you…Virgo ascendant. Most people would think this person seems very reserved, shy, serious, analytical and probably an introvert. However, you need to remember that they have Pisces as their filter for WORLD. Therefore, these people are very open towards taking in the world around them and very open towards experience. Pisces has zero filter about what it takes into itself and this makes the person truly open-minded and yes, an extrovert. Now, you might say this doesn’t make sense and indeed if we stop here is makes no sense to label every Virgo ascendant an extrovert. Our next step would be to look at the ruler of their Ascendant and its location. The ruler of Virgo, Mercury in the very private sphere of the 4th house is very different to a Mercury in the social 11th house. The location of the ruler of your chart therefore would point to your orientation outward or inward.

What is the next step to see if you are an introvert or extrovert? I would look at your Moon and see what are the basic needs that are non-negotiable and this includes sign AND house. It is also very important to look at rulerships to really get a better picture.

who is thinking by looking inwards and who is speaking by looking outwards? 😉

To make the process easier let us consider some real-life examples:

Bill Gates natal chart

Bill Gates was born under a late Cancer Ascendant so Saturn (Capricorn) rules his perception of the world. This itself shows someone who is oriented towards their values, emotions and needs and wants to protect their inner vision from the hard and difficult outer world. This person sees the world as a place to be impacted by his own personal vision because Saturn is in Scorpio in the 5th house. Bill therefore is oriented inwards in order to transform (Scorpio) the world (Saturn) with his creative vision (5th house). Bill’s chart ruler the Moon is in the sign of Aries in the 10th house. Mars ruler of his Moon is in the fourth house together with Mercury which indicates a lot of inner introspection about ideas that form his need to act (Mars). We can also note Bill’s Sun is conjunct Neptune but square Uranus on his ascendant. He may be very good at knowing what other people need and want but his inner self stays hidden/private.

Verdict? Introvert!

Bill Gates is very in touch with the masses because Moon is conjunct his MC. He can extrovert his grand ideas (Uranus rising) but he is motivated by inner values and feelings (Moon ruled by a 4th house Mars). In MBTI typing I would say he has dominant introverted thinking and a large vision composed of future orientation (Uranus, Sun-Neptune) so a strong intuitive function right there! People tend to type him as ENTJ which can indeed fit in some ways but I would go with INTP based on this chart. I don’t see the ENTJ at all here.

Steve Jobs natal chart

Let us try another example: Steve Jobs. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? Jobs is a Virgo ascendant so already my prior example of extroverted orientation towards the world applies. His Mercury is in Aquarius in the 5th house which shows a strong tendency towards social self-expression- a person who wants to play the eccentric in the group and be noticed (Leo rules the 5th house). He has a rather weak Aries Moon the 7thhouse so once again very inclined towards taking action towards people or towards leading people. The ruler of his 5th house is conjunct Uranus and in the very public 10 house.

Verdict? Extrovert!

A very creative, theatrical person with strong leadership abilities and not very in touch with his inner emotions or even who he is. The weak Sun/Moon is indicative of someone who takes action and thinks later. It also suggests he is very defined by the public for better and for worse. In MBTI terms I see strong extroverted sensing and weak introverted feeling. Steve Jobs is probably an ENTJ (leader, not feeler). I hope this was a helpful brief overview of how I analyze basic personality traits in a chart.

What is your personality type?

Composite Moon conjunct Uranus

When the sensitive Moon is conjunct Uranus in the composite chart the boundaries of familiarity between the couple, tend to dissolve easily. This aspect is very common among people who tend to become friendly and open with each other right away. As a result, this will be an exciting and often fun connection that feels like anything is possible. The obvious downside is that the two people don’t really know one another yet and the fast disclosure can make them feel vulnerable. There is something about Uranus that strips away the formality that is usually part of dating. In fact, all the outer planets tend to strip away the superficial aspects of our personalities so we gain a higher perspective. Pluto can strip flesh straight away to the bones of our fears and pain, meanwhile, Uranus can strip away the conventions and costumes we adopted in our lives. Because Uranus is all about the larger future-oriented meaning of things the couple can be completely uninterested in dealing with the boring domestic details of their lives or work. Instead, the Moon-Uranus couple would prefer visionary pursuits that make them feel alive and future-oriented. Tradition and convection tend to be something they are both redefining together in the relationship. It is therefore not fair to say that the couple doesn’t care about formality, culture, convention or traditional relationships! They care a lot about understanding and redefining the meaning of the unsaid rules of love and domesticity. Some couples can in fact, adopt “traditional rules” as a form of rebellion. I, therefore, disagree that Moon-Uranus is the unstable combination that it is often described as.

Independence is fun, especially when there’s a beloved waiting in the wings, and freedom makes you a more interesting person. Having separate lives brings fresh air into a relationship. –  Deborah Moggach

Moon-Uranus CAN create commitment problems but not because it fears commitment. The core problem with Moon-Uranus is the fast self-disclosure that tends to burn the couple out. We all have very vulnerable parts in our psyche that can’t survive being discovered so fast by a complete stranger. The Moon-Uranus couple becomes so excited about the relationship and finding a like-minded person. They tend to be very honest with one another even if it’s better to take some time before dropping the walls down. Emotional honesty is a wonderful thing for any relationship however Uranus is a visionary not an empath…The people can be honest about their emotions in an intellectual way that lacks the emotional intimacy that breeds trust. They can both feel like oversharing information and rushing the relationship. They just trust each other with no reason except for an elusive electric feeling that the person in front of them is a kindred spirit. They could be right! But many times, people end up feeling they said too much or jumped into living with someone before they really had the time to build trust through actions. I therefore suggest the Moon-Uranus couple does not assume that anything they share is appropriate. They both need to acknowledge that emotions are a vulnerable area of disclosure. If they want to share and envision what they have in common (which is always a lot) they can keep the topic intellectual and avoid secrets or personal history. If the Moon-Uranus couple manages to pass the sixth-month mark (or however long it takes) and are still as excited about their connection it is time to consider their personal habits. Moon rules our unconscious habits and also the feminine aspect of the relationship. Moon-Uranus suggest that the home would be a very energetic space where the individuality of the couple is important. The couple would want their daily lives to reflects their hobbies and ideals. They can also enjoy moving or changing their physical space so that something exciting to look forward to is always just around the corner. Ultimately Moon-Uranus suggests the couple is intelligent, high-minded and willing to grow. They can build a wonderful friendship and an interesting life that contributes to their community. The couple must always strive to see the bigger picture of their involvement with one another – it is never just about the couple but about their social role and mission. It is really important they remember that and not focus on personal weaknesses and vulnerabilities that are revealed too early. The couple needs to value their relationship as something unique and larger than life. Both people can do this if they value the individuality and equality of their partners. If they share hobbies and social causes of some sort, they can gain much harmony even in hard times. It is pointless to ever avoid a Moon-Uranus relationship but it works best when you just let t speak for itself without pre-written expectations. Enjoy the tremendous honesty and sense of excitement of this aspect because it can open you to a new expression of Self in relation to the world.

Aspects will change the meaning of the Moon-Uranus position in the composite.

Moon conjunct/square Pluto in Synastry

If you have a Moon conjunct Pluto with someone you can look forward to feeling attached on a deep level.  This attachment would make it very difficult for two people to not become psychologically linked.

What is a psychological link?  It is when you and another person become vulnerable with each other and exchange a sense of intimacy. This feeling can become very addictive because you become open to parts of yourself that are usually controlled. Moon-Pluto works like deep water that sips into the earth of your foundation. Who you think you are, your personality and social identity become irrelevant when this happens. The couple may experience a sense of crisis about parts of themselves they used to find natural and easy. Suddenly, your emotional reactions, childhood habits and sense of security are put on display.

You may feel this is happening because your partner has a way of making you feel seen.  You may think that something about them is making you feel safe enough to not hide who you are. The Pluto person has a tendency to skip social politeness and go straight into the emotional being of the Moon person. There is often a sense of not knowing why the attraction is so alluring and strong. In actuality, both people are fascinated with seeing their own hidden, repressed or feral parts come to light. There is a mistaken belief that the other person holds the power to understand us. This belief tends to make people fascinated and obsessed with each other.

The truth is, that the relationship itself can be very revealing and raw. We can’t hide the fact we do things because of some need we have and it feels good to know the other person feels this compulsion too. It also feels very good that it is an unspoken, mysterious connection where both people know they are playing cat and mouse. The fact it is such an unspoken current of the relationship makes it attractive and even sexy. There is a lot of space for both people to project their own animalistic yearning onto the other person and let that fester and grow into a compulsion to become emotionally naked. This aspect tends to override the fact that two people have nothing in common or might not even be one another’s “type”. It creates a pulsing sense of urgency to bond, get emotionally naked and reveal all secrets. This sense of compulsion creates a lot of fear or even guilt in both people. They may ask themselves why do they feel so bewitched with this person? What is it about them that makes it is so important to connect?

Some people experience a sense of repulsion with the other person. They fear their own need to get close to them and they even blame their partner for trying to manipulate them. They might turn to various manipulations in the form of trying to shape and control the relationship dynamic. They want the other person and they would never give up but they deal with their fear by being the one in control of the emotional well-being of the other person (usually the Moon). It is very Moon for the Pluto person to act like a therapist or psychologist so that they can catalog the emotional reactions of the Moon person.

The Moon person when Pluto crosses the line

They do so to ‘help’ the Moon person open up and feel safe. They want Moon to open up so they can feed on the rich emotional nature and sensitivity of their display. It makes Pluto feel powerful and in charge of this kingdom that is the heart of the Moon person. They genuinely revel and enjoy the Moon person’s weakness and displays of instinctive reactions. The Moon person feels very validated that the Pluto person is not running away when seeing them like that. They feel they can be messy, sad, hurt and as dark as can be and still the Pluto person would love them. The problem is that the Pluto person is not always aware that what they really want is to experience their own repressed nature through the Moon person. They may miscalculate their own obsessions and needs when playing this game. For example, they might act cold in order to make the Moon person show how much they need them. By the time the Moon person surrenders and admits they can’t live without the they have repressed their own yearning for them so much that they might lash out in an almost aggressive manner. They would become possessive and fearful and in actuality the Moon person would have the upper hand in this situation. Why? Because they are connected to their truth and emotions and can admit what they need. The Pluto person would intuitively sense this fact and become even more obsessed with finding ways to predict and catalog the emotional reactions of their partner.

If Venus is involved in the Synastry they might do so through kind gestures and nurturing ways. For example, they would want to know what their partner’s favorite food or gift is and use that knowledge when they feel the Moon person is shifting away from the bond. They would show the Moon person with all sorts of actions but would never reveal their own compulsive need to also receive affection and nurturing. It is almost like the Pluto person is living their emotions through the Moon person. This creates a very co-dependent dynamic because both people can’t really fully experience who they are without the other person. The Moon person lost their guard and “skin” to the point where they are very unsafe if the Pluto person stops being their shield. The Pluto person acts like a protective barrier against any outside influence on the Moon person. They can very genuinely keep them safe from harm but this safety means the Moon person must stay in the imaginary fort that Pluto created for them.

The Moon should ask themselves whether this fort is a golden cage, a prison or home? It is usually all three.

The healthier the relationship the more honest Pluto can be about how attached they are to the Moon. The less honest they are with themselves about why they provoke or protect the Moon the more likely this relationship would turn into a cage where they both feel exposed, weak and unfulfilled. Yet, they would always care and love one another because no other person has ever touched them so deeply and exposed them to something they didn’t think was possible in our world that can be called real intimacy. Intimacy not based on anything superficial but on real sharing of two souls. They might recognize the relationship is unhealthy and move on but with a sense of gratitude for the experience. It is also possible they would stay but both would have to transform and be very raw with each other about their fears and their need to feel safe. If they are ready to work together they would become conjoined into an entity that is hard to destruct. The bond would be unbreakable and fiercely loyal.

Empathy: The three Types

“All I ever wanted was to reach out and touch another human being not just with my hands but with my heart.”
― Tahere Mafi

Are you an empath? Were you told you are too sensitive growing up? Let’s consider what does empathy even mean.

All humans have empathy- with few rare exceptions. Having no empathy at all would essentially make you a psychopath.  Some people have such a developed ability that they face special challenges in their lives.

Empathy is defined as the ability to feel what someone else is feeling. It is not your feelings but you identify and understand them enough to feel them as if they are your own.

Empathic people tend to be able to experience a wide variety of emotions. Imagine emotions like colors- for an empath these colors are vivid and a wide combination of tones and textures is available. Some might call this emotional intelligence but I think that at times empathy can in fact hinder the ability to act in an emotionally intelligent manner.

If you are an empath you by nature don’t tend to separate yourself from other people. The boundaries between” I and other” are blurry.

For an empath the ability is most present when being in the same space as another person. In fact, the closer they are standing next to you and if they touch you and look into your eyes- the stronger the experience of emphasizing will be for you.

Empathy doesn’t have to be toward an actual living person in the room or a person at all- it can be a strong experience towards an event, a story someone tells you or an animal.

Like I mentioned before empathy means understanding how someone else is feeling- putting yourself in their shoes.

In order to do so- you would have to know the feeling- to have experienced it yourself. That’s why most empathic people have intense emotional responses; they feel things on a deep level. They felt things from an early age and are familiar with the different ways: love, anger, pain, anxiety and happiness can take.

Imagine talking to a friend and telling them of a problem you have or something that happened during the day.  An empathic friend would not just listen to what you are saying- they would respond as if they understand how that event made you feel. They may say something that shows they understand or they may understand without you saying anything- what you need. If you need silence, a hug or advice they will be able to give it to you.  Chances are they will show they are affected by what you said- they may start crying or shiver as if they feel your fear or if you are happy they will smile.

Most of us try and be good friends and family members and show we care.  The difference between empaths and regular people is in their boundaries and level of detachment.

An empath has a very low level of detachment from your feelings and may even confuse them with their own emotions!  Another difference is in their ability to move away from the emotions, they can’t simply forget what you told them or how you made them feel and will need a lot of time to detach. Most empaths also have physical symptoms of this experience: they can have nightmares, shiver, and feel cold and overwhelmed.

Because being an empath is not an easy experience and it can get overwhelming- many highly empathic people think there is something wrong with them. They may see how different their experience is to other people and feel they are “weak for letting the world get to them. Nothing is further from the truth, they are not weak but simply more attuned to the world- they are a radio attuned to the human experience with no off button.

Not being able to turn off empathy makes many empathic people shy away from human interaction. They may seem distant and cold which is ironic.

Empathy also has another side effect-an ability to put on a mask or play any role. Think about it- if you know emotions so well and you expressed and experienced them on a deep level- wouldn’t it be easy for you to pretend o feel something?  This ability to become anything and anyone is an interesting aspect of empathy. It is almost like magic.

The challenge for empaths is to learn how to create boundaries that are strong enough to let them function in the world. The trick is in knowing that boundaries don’t mean they shut themselves away from helping people or from feelings- in fact boundaries allow them to be much more emphatic towards many more people, without getting tired.

Anyway…Let’s get back into what Astrology has to say about empathy.

Traditionally empathy is associated with the Moon, specifically with the Moon in a water sign.  Additionally, empathy is associated with the planet Neptune.

In my experience the way empathy plays out for each Moon sign is different. Although I am talking specifically about moon signs these types can also relate to personality types and play out in other placements in your chart. If you recognize any of it- and don’t have a water Moon, that is probably the case.

1st type is the Moon in Pisces:  This is the type of empathy where with the lowest level of boundaries. You feel you are the other person completely! The emotions are also very lacking I direction because you can’t always tell where they come from or what made you feel. It is almost as if how you feel is made out of fragments of other people and places. You tend to feel collective emotions! So you are a natural actor and performer. On the other hand you can’t describe or pin down what you feel- you just do.

2nd type is the Moon in Cancer: This is where you know you are feeling someone else’s emotions- but you can’t help but let them in. You also feel very nurturing and like you want to help the other person. The need to be of service and to give can make this empathy very exhausting. Take care of yourself first.  You also tend to feel stronger empathy towards those who are weak: children, animals and the sick.

3rd type is the Moon in Scorpio: Here there are stronger boundaries and ability to tell what your own emotions are. You have the type of empathy that goes underneath the emotion of the person to the root cause. You tend to understand the reason for the emotion and are a natural psychologist. Here the empathy is directed towards the darker impulse of humanity- you understand pain and darkness and can see beneath evil to the pain at heart.

Moon in the 8th house: The Brave Survivor

Those born with the Moon in their 8th house are in for a ride. This planet in particular by nature is subject to change, waxing and waning. The moon is in rhythm with the element of water and the sign of Cancer. If you are born with your moon in this mysterious house, your states of mind are subject to constant up and downs. This basically means that the only thing you can rely on is that nothing lasts. This statement holds true about events in your life- people, possessions and thoughts all come and go. Perhaps that is why you are so passionate about what you have- you know it is fleeting and you desperately need to cling to it before you lose it forever.

As emotions are like currents and waves, you can feel safe knowing that negative states of mind will go away on their own. You simply need to let go in order to reach inner harmony. Learning how to let go might be the hardest lesson for this moon- you are deeply tied to the past. You have a very good emotional memory and can vividly recall how you felt about something no matter how long ago.

As I mentioned before, your life in general, tends to be somewhat dramatic. It is not unusual for people with this moon placement to experience death, illness and catastrophe in childhood. Even without actual events- there is a tragic heavy weight on your shoulders. Because you are so intuitive to the needs of others, as a young person many (family usually) relied on you for healing. When something hard happened in the family or home- you were subjected to standing strong and surviving.  As a result you have many emotions which you did not process or express. You think you have to be strong, stoic- unlike other people. In a way you are right- you are stronger than others people- you can feel so much more and keep going. On the other hand, this is just your survival mode that won’t let you deal with the difficult events. You are probably quick on your feet in emergencies.

At heart, you have a great healing power to help others face who they are. People tell you their secrets and you listen. You take it all in and learn from it. This is where the intelligence you possess comes in- you learn by observing emotional currents. This is true about all water moons in general, but a moon in the 8th house.

You take it all in and learn from it. This is where the intelligence you possess comes in- you learn by observing emotional currents. This is true about all water moons in general, but a moon in the 8th house would utilize the skills of the sign it is in. For example, a Moon in Gemini in the 8th house would be able to talk and communicate difficult emotions after talking to many people about their problems. They may be a bit of a copycat and a great actor.

Generally, people with the Moon in the 8th are very mature. On an inner level, there is something heavy and serious about them. It is like they never were just children- they always had worries and thoughts about life. They are always searching for meaning and truth within the realm of the 8th house. You see- the Moon has a lot to do with what we think- what is on our mind. Here the mind creates an obsessive loop of thoughts about fear. Because the thoughts are focused on very primal needs- survival, safety, sex, food and love. The result is strong feelings that might feel like anxiety, fear, depression and anger. If you take the layer of these feelings down you will find that people here are always in search of bliss. They want to experience perfect love, perfect harmony and unity. Because you need this meaning and can’t always find it in life- there becomes a programmed way of thinking that can be very anxiety inducing, hence the “bad” reputation of people with this moon being melancholy. In truth, is not the natural state of mind but a result of not dealing with inner needs. You have a need for deep experience and meaning and if this is something you can integrate in daily life- you will be just fine.

You simply have to accept how passionate you are and that you have needs that are a little different in their intensity. The Moon rules our inner home – our security. For you this place is threatened from within. You are a survivor that is also a destroyer. Your own worst enemy. How? By thinking thoughts that only pull you down and that focus on negative things. Once you fully accept you need to feel safe and start finding outlets- the record will be broken and you can start anew. In fact, that is a good description of your life. Going deeply into various places and starting over when they don’t serve you anymore.

On a social level, you are probably what others would describe as interesting. You have an aura that promises something more just around the corner. The way you move through life leaves other people excited and interested. You can also be wonderfully dramatic and artistic in how you express yourself, charismatic even.

There a beautiful quality to your voice, movement and speech. It comes out as something very raw and animalistic or dreamy and melodious. Regardless you attract a reaction of some kind.

As it happens, all the beauty you have to offer is not seen by people. It is not a stand out in a crowd kind of charm. You are very private and share yourself with very few. You guard your emotions and people may get a different person in public. This is especially true about fire signs who may appear much more open than they really are. Although they can still charm you to death.

I think the key with this Moon is to find an inner security that stands on a strong ethic of self-love. This is a process of coming to face with emotions and with putting up strong boundaries. Once this starts to take place an element of the Moon in the 8th house starts to appear- and element of great strength and healing. Without fear you can truly share with other people, stand on a podium and heal, sing you heart out, create a masterpiece or a happy home. You will always be there for people you care about- and you will also learnt to let go and be above petty hurt. No one can hurt you with their words or actions if you don’t let them. You are a survivor.

Fire Moon in the 8th

You have endless energy and may seem very headstrong, inside you are much more sensitive and less extroverted. You have a lot insight into human character and what makes people feel important. You know how to put on a show and can act out any state of mind with ease. You need to feel respected and respond with irritation when you perceive a threat to your sense of self. Drama, writing, acting, the law and dancing can be great outlets.

Earth Moon in the 8th

You have a strong resistance to change but you also crave it. You seek lasting relationships and situations. Your foremost need is to feel secure on an emotional level and build trusted foundations. You are a person of depth as you respect the hidden agendas of others and know there is always a reason. You choose your surroundings with care. Nature can be soothing and film, painting, poetry and singing good outlets.

Moon in air in the 8th

You re sharp as a knife. A deep thinker and an amazing communicator, you influence people with ease and can be both very diplomatic and overwhelming in your strength. At times you can become shy and act a little cold. You don’t like to be overpowered by your emotions and prefer thinking them out. You can sometimes offend others without knowing why. You are in conflict between wanting to keep it light and wanting enlightenment. You are a seeker of truth and a detective. Good outlets are politics, public speaking, research, activism, medicine and playing an instrument.

Moon in water in the 8th house

You are a secret dreamer, you enjoy a broken type of beauty and you find your ideals don’t always match up with life. There is a mysterious quality to you that no one can pin point. At times you feel your emotions are too ugly to bear. At others you feel you found “it” and are overwhelmed with joy. You are a natural psychologist and have the emotional intelligence of a mythical creature. At times you can be self-destructive and overly protective. Good outlets are helping others, healing and all artistic endeavors.

I’m telling these tears, “Go and fall away, fall away”
May the last one burn into flames”

Beyonce has her Moon in Scorpio and a strong Libra influence that allows her to express it in artistic and visual means that are still pleasing to the public.

So…Orginally this blog started with my own deep fascination with how popular media and music reflected individual birth charts to a T. The fascination hasn’t waned and so I would love to start posting some bits and pieces about pop culture in addition to the informative posts.

This year Beyonce has released her masterpiece of death and rebirth with Lemonade. A recent live performance of the track “Freedom” is just a prime example of everything Scorpio. The visual album tells us a story fo death and rebirth with strong undertones of jealousy and passion. Freedom is a culmination of all the suffering love brings. Scorpio goes through many deep painful emotions until it dies and is reborn again with new understanding.

Beyonce tells us that love does win and with her strong Libra (Venus) placements love is part of the story- but not really. Rather Lemonade is more a story of individual growth and finding the true self- out of the weak ashes is reborn  a strong woman. Sexuality is both the cause of pain- betrayal, possessiveness, and jealousy but also the redeeming power that allows Beyonce to be reborn as an all-powerful goddess with strong Venusian qualities.

Lemonade is a Venusian creation in that it uses images that serve as mirrors of her transformation into that new person. It is also a highly sensual experience full of texture, color merged sound and blunt sexuality. Sexuality that is both very very cultivated (Libra) artificial if you will. The kind where Beyonce has her hair all flowing and her makeup glowing as her curves light up the screen.  And very raw, natural feminine Beyonce  where her eyes (soul-Moon) let us see a more vulnerable side to her. The power of the feminine is a theme very present in all her music but here it takes a dark tone never seen before. Emotions are not meant to be pretty but they gain a new beauty in their service to the rebirth of the self.

In her recent 2016 BET Awards performance of Freedom, we see dancers glide across calm waters as Beyonce starts chanting away her prayer, gaining strength and conviction in her true path: freedom from darkness, freedom from dependence- freedom only gained through love. The kind of love that doesn’t ask you to shut your power away- instead the Scorpio love is a healing storm that burns all evil in it’s path and brings new life. Think about the final scene of Lemonade, it all ends with Blue Ivy, her daughter. Transformed, Beyonce can leave the demonic behind and come back to being a mother and a wife.

Scorpio Moon people go through this types of currents of change all their lives- finally, popular culture gives the rest of us a glimpse into these depths and the rewards of suffering. Beyonce wins and she takes us on a journey towards that triumph.

Analyzing the performance it is all rather straight forward and spectacular. The lighting casts the stage in burning orange and red – almost blood like but reminiscent to the colors of dawn and a new beginning. Red fog welcomes Beyonce and her tribe on stage to the sounds of drums. The crowd helps the ritual along as they step on stage. We first see Beyonce as a shadow cloaked in white light. As the light hits the stage, she and her tribe of dancers get ready for their battle for freedom. Their movements start to become wider and the water is disturbed into little puddles – the change has begun. Beyonce starts singing and as she gains momentum the water is turned into a wavy surface, much harder to control. Water like the Moon and like Scorpio is an emotional current and as such it needs to be surfed on- not controlled.  It seems to me the battle is won only when water stops to be that current danced on and rains starts falling in golden shimmers on top of Beyonce. Water is not a force from below- but from above it is able to wash away the past, the pain, the old self if you will. Washed clean the mistakes and sings bring out the freedom.

The water is still as the dancers glide- they are the spirits that would soon help the witch cast away her enemies. Waters are still and the goddess starts her song but when water rains down it is  a celebration. Therefore when Beyonce sings the verse: “Freedom! Freedom! I can’t move, Freedom, cut me loose!”  The dancers splash across the stage bringing together water from above and below into a new whole. The red light as mentioned before symbolizes both blood- life, birth but also  death- of the old self but perhaps a new beginning and dawn.

Is it beautiful? Or is it disturbing? You judge. Probably it is both and no one said it better: “Beauty is terror”- Donna Tartt. For that another post.

Moon in Sagittarius: Clown of Wisdom

Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.- Oprah Winfrey (Sagg Moon)

In the beginning there was nothing. God said, ‘Let there be light!’ And there was light. There was still nothing, but you could see it a whole lot better.- Ellen Degeneres

If you have the Moon in the sign of Sagittarius, what does it mean? How can one be both a clown and a philosopher?

This is a strange placement for a natal Moon. After all: Moon is about our emotions and inner self and this sign is more concerned with humanity at large- the bigger picture. Ruled by Jupiter emotions take a funny turn for the person. Imagine taking the heart and translating it into a language of logic- it doesn’t always work so well and this is the case when the Moon is in Air or Fire signs. What happens then is that emotions get expressed on a very high level but not in a way that other people would associate traditionally with feelings. It stops being about love, hate, passion, jealousy and become a matter of ideas. The ideas for Saggiterius are very much related to intellectual preoccupations and to the higher mind. Saggiterius is able to reason and find patterns in the world; it finds its opinions to be the truth.  Sagittarius is always searching for truth! That is their mission and it takes them on crazy trips and relationships.  The Moon here is very positive is some ways. First of all, you are probably more concerned with the future or the present and unlike some Moons you are not as prone to get stuck in the past. Therefore, healing and moving forward is your strength. Or you emotions should be cheerful, easy, fun and exciting. You don’t like heavy and intense emotional displays unless it is a game- like in theater, or between good friends. Jupiter expands and gives luck to all it touches- here the inner self is able to see the bigger picture, to stay a free spirit no matter the hardship. You probably enjoy travel or taking small risks and gambles in your private life.

You might enjoy doing strange or funny things for the sake of adventure.  People probably enjoy your company a lot as you bring humor and energy of optimism wherever you go. That is not to say you don’t get depressed or angry- you very much do if something you care about is being challenged. The point is you don’t take it personally and after letting out steam you forget what bothered you and go back to you witty self. On the other hand, people can really get you down! If they display constant heavy and difficult emotions you become a shadow of yourself. Probably you would leave such a situation if you can before it gets this bad.

Saggiterius Moons need to move forward and have freedom to express emotions and ideas. They live by rules they strongly believe in and some are even very traditional in their views- what matters is that they had the freedom to seek out the truth they believe in. They don’t take well to imposed rules and they don’t tolerate opinions they don’t agree with very well. If this is your Moon placement you probably know people sometimes feel like fighting you and what you believe in. Because your philosophy is an emotional matter for you- you will really fight back.  When you were younger you probably did you best to fit in by being the “clown” or the life of the party, even if you were shy you still could pull that off. The older you get the more you allow what matters to you to take hold and feel comfortable and safe in your ideals – the less of a clown you become. A mature Saggiterius Moon is full of wisdom and experience they enjoy sharing with the world.  They are able to use all they learned in their travels of spirit and mind to uplift other people (Oprah Winfrey is a good example).  Your happiness is contagious and your ability to not get too attached to emotions is a gift.

At heart you are an optimist who knows that life is just a game.  In love you need a partner that doesn’t retrain your inner free spirit and allows you to go where you need to go. Someone who enjoys the humor and wit you possess and gives you space to grow would be ideal. For you relationships are about growth and you don’t understand why people stay together if they are miserable. Commitment for you is committing to always change and move forward. Although this is who you are- you might need a more grounded partner to take care of all the little details you are bored with and who brings stability to your racing heart.

You might like a partner who is adventurous but also practical and who shares the same views about the world and humanity. Together you can grow and change for the better. Some people may perceive you as shallow in your emotions and although they may not appreciate what you have to offer perhaps it is a lesson for you to learn to face dangerous and deeper emotional currents in life. Luckily you embrace  a challenge with a smile and it will not nock you down for long.

How the Scorpio Moon goes Mad

The Scorpio wants to feel for the sake of feeling. The feeling is mistaken for truth when in fact, truth is to be found when the waves of emotions die down.

Truth is within you if you could only see the magnificent beauty of your own soul, instead of the endless current of moods you live in, If only…But you crave emotion and it is the only way you know to be alive. Is being alive the same as living?  the answer is no. If this resonated with you at all then continue reading and If not please excuse this moody post.

“Sensitive people usually love deeply and hate deeply. They don’t know any other way to live than by extremes because their emotional thermostat is broken.”
― Shannon L. Adler

Today I want to talk about the complicated emotional makeup of the Moon in Scorpio. This is especially relevant as this placement is all about the experience of emotions in life. I want to write to you- my Moon in Scorpio dear person, as perhaps this might be helpful for you. I know you don’t shy away from gruesome images, hard truths and painful memories. So I trust you will forgive my harshness. Let’s face it, you are a little mad by nature or at least by nurture. Whatever the case, you are prone to at least a few problems which cause you to experience inner turmoil. The minor version of your crazy is that of the obsessive thinker- you never let a thought or idea go once in enters your head, do you? You are prone to attach your thoughts to events in your life and reimagine them over and over. Naturally you are prone various nervous break downs and insomnia. The less minor version of your crazy is all about waves, waves of ups and downs that can make the latest thriller seem tame as a puppy. Something along the lines of a bipolar disorder. You feel deeply they tell you- sure, but it just happens you feel deeply in cycles of joy and desperation. It is not a flat line of depth you experience but a storm that is within you- always.

There is nothing very wrong with you, in fact you are the most gifted individual in terms of how experienced you are in all range of feeling and knowing. But…lets ask a simple question? why are you feeling at all? What is it that you really feel?

Imagine you are sitting in your living room in a comfy chair and a commercial comes up on TV. Something about it makes you feel things. Is that emotion real? Probably not you will say, it was manipulated to make you buy stuff. You are right about that one. The question is what are you buying into every day? The secret truth is you are buying into you Scorpio Moon, the master of emotional manipulation. Thats why you feel bad and thats why things are so wrong. all the F***** time. You were born with the Moon in Scorpio, you are unique! You were born to feel and that is what you truly desire. To reach the depth of human experience and find out the truth. Yes you see- you want to feel because you want to find out truth. But we all know emotions can lie, don’t we? Are feelings really the way to the light? Perhaps for you they are. But not so fast dear…You are going mad. You are obsessed, depressed, sad, lonely, alone, angry. Why does that happen when all you wanted was to feel?

The answer is boring but true. You have a built-in mechanism (Moon) that is able to create emotion out of thin air. You have this need for feeling that isn’t satisfied with daily existence. Anyone else feels things because of events in their life.

They see a tiger? They feel fear. You don’t see a tiger and so you imagine a big scary tiger until you feel scared for you life. Thats is because your true secret fear is that of not feeling- of being empty. That would mean you are dead. Being alive for you is feeling and any moment without it must be the end. So you have this gift, this secret ability to fuel and create feelings for the sake of every breath you take. This is a gift- when it isn’t torturing you to bits. Sadly, for most of you Scorpio Moon’s this ability isn’t used for the creation of amazing art or for saving the world with you convictions. I can think of famous ones who did just that. Instead, you keep needing stimuli within you (it is not something you show) and you self-destruct. It is human nature to find negative emotions and thoughts easy to conjure and maintain. So…that is what happens when you are young. You seek emotions and when it isn’t there you create it while convincing yourself it is real and caused by X or Y.

You are not crazy, you are just walking around with this lava that is about to burn you. I beg you to either admit that you have needs to truth and love and to seek them outside of your own twisted mind, or to at least find release and expression.

Is what you feel caused by an outward event? Is it caused by the memories of the past?

What matters for you is to learn a few things before you can shine like the diamond you are.

First, learn to live in the present and to ride its current that will take you into a health future. Second, learn the usefulness of boundaries so as to differentiate your feelings from the world- you are an empath after all. Third, face your biggest fear- which is fear itself. Last, most important is learn you mission to uncover truth which you can through honest emotions not conjured by artificial means. Be it addictions, relationships or your own glorious mind. You devil.

Moon in Virgo – the Beautiful Mind

I was debating writing about this Moon- it is one of the more demanding but then I thought how demanding it must be for those born with it- and decided to stop complaining.

So what is the Moon like in Virgo? Well the Moon is our mental and emotional inner image, it is how we react to things we care about. And what do we care about? When we are little we care about being loved, home, family and when we grow up this translates into our adult relationships.

Traditionally Virgo is very rational, analytical, detail oriented, but don’t forget it is also an Earth sign and one of the more sensual ones at that. Virgo thinks but it also feels through its practical endeavors. What makes the Virgo feel good is being able to get to the bottom of things, to know how they work, it digs in and then breaks the picture into little puzzle pieces- the emotional world of the Virgo, like the Taurus Moon needs stability, but of a different kind. The Virgo Moon needs to know everything is in place, all its thoughts and emotions neatly ordered within. This is all good, but emotions are not very neat and orderly things and so the Virgo Moon is in a flux about itself. As a result Virgo Moon people are very self-critical, they are never perfect enough, good enough. They ask the impossible from their own hearts- to stay in place and play by the rules. But hearts don’t do that do they? Behind the deep thoughts and knowledge of every Virgo Moon is a truly vulnerable person. We all are vulnerable but the Virgo moon is so because in childhood dealing with their inner world became a difficult task. Instead many Virgo Moon kids found themselves doing things: competing and winning medals, dancing, cooking and even working. The Virgo Moon is always busy- and it likes to be. Most Virgo Moon’s you will meet have a mountain of knowledge inside their heads which they take for granted.  They are the learners, the smart ones. The Moon does symbolize the mother and so the mother figure or any important feminine figure in their lives was probably very pushy- pushing them to do more, be more instead of just being. Maybe the mother was a teacher or even worse a mother who never got a professional outlet and bestowed that on their kid.

Every Moon has a task to deal with- the Virgo Moon needs to let go of that teacher in their heads and of all that noise. That is the issue, the constant noise of the mind. As they grow up, the Virgo Moon’s learn to find a healthy outlet for that cluttered mind- usually in a professional frame. They make great researchers, writers and therapists. Some just sit and meditate all day or in bad cases escape into drugs- self-criticism is a problem. Virgo is ruled by Mercury- so one thing Moon in Virgo can develop is emotional intelligence. They learn and use what they learn to be emotionally smart. Another good aspect of the Virgo Moon is its ability to think things over; they would not jump into stupid impulsive conclusions about anything. They are usually soft spoken and clever people and loyal friends. Virgo also rules health- so emotional health may be something they care and know much about. I also noticed Virgo Moons can be good speakers, especially if they are teaching you about something- which they will. Sometimes, the Virgo Moon gets so warped up in analyzing things, it misses the whole point. So they need friends who can tell them they need to just let go, and enjoy. The Virgo Moon is sensual remember? So if given a chance they know how to have a good earthy fun- but only as long as it falls into their own set of rules. The rules are completely subjective, so you wouldn’t know what they are. One Virgo Moon I knew, would work all day, chattering and gossiping in between- he was a clean cut guy, the kind that never drinked or smoked in his life. But one day during a University lecture lunch he got very drunk, seemed to have a good time. Later I learned he did it only because it was University related – part of the rules. So don’t be surprised to meet a very wild Virgo Moon- behind that they are thinking things over, I promise you.

The Virgo Moon does have some trouble in love. They know what they want and don’t want- which is great. But sometimes the standards can seem completely irrational to other people. Like a girl I knew who would only date a guy who never wears shorts. A good partner for this Moon would be someone like a Pisces- who is more emotional and dreamy. Preferably with some small issue that the Virgo Moon can fix, but no big issues pleas- the Virgo Moon has way too many things keeping them busy and a messed up partner isn’t helpful.  I also see this Moon finds it easier in charts of Fire signs and harder with more earth signs in the chart. The Virgo Moon should develop a sense of spiritual place in the world, and try and see how they can make their dreams a practical reality- they are amazing at that. They should cultivate their natural emotional intelligence, which is a great gift and remember to have a little thought free fun.
